About Me

I’m Ben Lipovski, a passionate health and wellbeing advocate researching ways to transform the healthcare and social landscape to promote health equity and individual empowerment. With a background in Kinesiology and health promotion, I strive to challenge the status quo, unravel solutions, and empower individuals to lead healthier, profoundly purposeful lives. I employ a human-first philosophy to strength-based methodologies, resulting in a more impactful approach that emphasizes intersectionality as authenticity.

I am currently driven by the ambition to pursue graduate studies in population and public health, with an emphasis on exploring the sociocultural aspects of addiction. More specifically, my interest lies in understanding the social construction and normalization of drug use within the university environment, particularly in the context of the widespread usage of study drugs. The objective of my study is to advocate for harm reduction and improve drug literacy, empowering individuals to make informed decisions that enhance their overall health and well-being.

As a sales associate, I worked one-on-one with guests to:

Program Development & Innovation:

  • From Bland to Bonanza: By ditching the yawn-inducing corporate cookie-cutter approach, I transformed mandatory team-building into adventures participants couldn’t wait to join.
  • Movement Mosaic: Spearheaded the creation and expansion of the Move U Crew’s diverse program catalogue, ensuring an inclusive range of engaging, accessible, and holistic movement offerings for online and in-person participation.
  • Science-Fueled Fun: Championed evidence-based approaches to physical activity promotion, incorporating research findings into program design and ensuring impactful outcomes for student well-being.

Research Assistant - University of Calgary

CHASE (CHild Active-Transportation Safety and the Environment) is a research program funded by the Canadian Institutes for Health Research and based at the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary. By pinpointing environmental factors affecting child pedestrian and cyclist safety, crafting evidence-based recommendations for safer communities, and championing their implementation, CHASE aims to build healthier and more active cities for all.

As an undergraduate research assistant, my tasks included:

  • Coordinated the screening and intake of children presenting to the Alberta Children’s Hospital Emergency Department for study intake.
  • Completed and presented research literature on child bicycle related injuries in pursuit of creating a safer built environment.
  • Championing safer streets, one bandage at a time: Coordinated emergency intake for injured young explorers at the Alberta Children’s Hospital, fueled by a passion for child safety and better bike infrastructure.
Day Camp Leader - Westside Recreation

Westside Recreation Centre is a community recreation facility in Southwest Calgary. A range of amenities and facilities are available, particularly summer day camps for children aged 5-12.

As a Day Camp Leader, my tasks included:

  • Leading children between the ages of 5-12 in games and activities that ensured their engagement, safety, and enjoyment.
  • Collaborating with day camp volunteers while also nurturing an engaging experience for their own learning and personal development.
